On Saturday 29th September, local storyteller Martin Maudsley led a walk along the River Frome from sluice gates to Eastville lake, following our heroine Irene the Duck and her adventures as we and she journeyed upstream, co-creating the story. Creating stories on your own or narrative essays online and telling them at such an event is a very cool initiative, because people will be interested in listening and communicating with each other, creating certain connections between them. Engineer Laurie Neale and fisheries and biodiversity officer Jody Armitage from the Environment Agency were also on hand to tell the stories of the sluice gates and the lifecycle of the European eel. Other highlights included juice and biscuits in the garden at number 69 (with huge thanks to Chrissy and Justine) and a finale, ukelele-accompanied rendition of Goodnight Irene on the shores of the lake… Photos by Hannah Ranken with additional pictures by Steve Bottoms.
